Impact Clash: Feb. 20th Revival Information

 

This is the last month before Final Round which means one thing! We must protect this house next month. Our last tournament's hype was way out somewhere in the stratosphere. With that said we are going to run this back one more time before Final Round. We have a new venue that's way larger than before! I'm sure you guys will love! No more $10 parking fees! Although I will miss the within walking distance CNN Center food court :(. However, if this works out, we will definitely stay at this venue. If not, we can always return to the Congress Center at a later point.

Registration time: 10 AM - 1 PM

Tourney starts: Around  2:00 PM

Fees: $10 for Door, $2-$10 Entry per game

Games: Tekken 6, Street Fighter 4, Blazblue, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Super Smash Bros. Melee & Brawl, Street Fighter 3rd Strike, and Power Stone 2 .

Equipment Waiver: Full set up meaning tv and console. entry fee will be waived 1/2 set up meaning console/tv, half off entry fee.

If you plan on bringing a setup make sure to arrive early. Once we have enough machines we will not be accepting anymore.

Impact Clash V: The Revenge,the South's major Fall/Winter tournament, starts today at the Georgia World Congress center. Early registration is between 11:15 - 1:15 pm; entry fee is $10 per game (game roster is posted on the right hand column). Late registration is between 1:16 pm - 1:45 pm with a $5 fee added to the registration fee. Please note: Registration will be closed after 1:45 pm, no exceptions.

EVO 2K 2009: Wrap up and Results

This year's EVO 2K was a fun showing but a little underwhelming at the same time.  Daigo, Wong, Choi, & Ed Ma did reasonably well, as usual. But other faves such as Alex Valle and Gootecks had very lackluster showings; both players got memorably ousted in the 5 on 5 by Sabre's Sakura here and here.

The final SF4 match between Daigo (Ryu) and Wong (Balrog) had the usual  intensity that you would expect from these two. They went back and forth for a couple of rounds until Daigo finally got Wong with  three fireballs and ended it with a high kick (watch).  

You can re-watch the raw EVO footage from Day 1 - 3 here or scour Youtube for edits of your favorite players. HD Video of EVO is expected to be on IGN.com sometime this week. However, in order to access their HD video you'll need to pay about $15 for an IGN insider subscription (if you don't already have one).

EVO 2009's HD Video ONLY $15, Thanks To IGN.com

     

This year's Evo HD streams and tournament video production will be handled by IGN insider. Evo announced that this partnership will translate to higher quality video, faster production, and a much cheaper price. Quote directly from Evo2k.com July 13th post:

"Match footage will of course be direct-feed in HD with crowd audio and commentary, and will go online with clickable brackets and other fun stuff. You get all this not for our usual DVD price of $30 to $60, but for just 15 bucks (I’m doing my best Billy Mays here, does it show?), which is a 25% discount off IGN’s usual rate."

I've brought a couple of EVO DVDs over the years and part of their charm was that they were independently produced with the community in mind. Now that IGN is taking care of the video production, I wonder will this year's video still have the community's heart in mind?

Tournament:EVO Championship Series 2009 World Finals!

Evo 2k, the world's largest and longest running tournament, will have HQ live streams all weekend long.  I'm really interested on how someone as big as Evo is going to handle their streams. Up until this point the biggest tourney stream I've viewed was Devastation's.

 I thought they did a pretty good job. I liked how they toggled between camera's directed at the players, at the commentators, and live gameplay. The quality look good but after 5,000 viewers the stream started to crash. However Devastation was running their streams using ustream.com, where I believe Evo will be using a more private server. Capcom will be representing by having the new built of Tatsunko vs. Capcom on hand, giving away prizes, and having a special appearance by SF4 producer, Yoshinori Ono. So I'm anxious to see how EVO will pull it all off.
